Dubai occupies a remarkable position in the global charter market: within four hours of sailing from Dubai Marina, you can be anchored in a remote Omani fjord with dolphins surfacing beside your vessel, in the outer waters of a man-made island archipelago, or cruising toward the Abu Dhabi skyline past the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque's gleaming white domes visible from the water. Few cities on earth offer this range within such a concentrated geographic footprint. This guide covers every significant destination accessible from Dubai Marina — the distances, durations, what to expect, and practical notes on permits and timing.

The World Islands, Dubai

The World Islands are 300 artificial islands arranged in the approximate shape of a world map — a project so ambitious in its conception that it remained somewhat unbelievable for years after its announcement. Located approximately 4 kilometres off the Dubai coastline, the archipelago is accessible exclusively by private vessel; there are no bridges and no public ferry service connects any island to the mainland. This exclusivity makes it a natural destination for private yacht charters seeking a genuine sense of remoteness — a feeling of sailing to somewhere genuinely off the map — without leaving Dubai's waters.

What to Do: Anchoring off the islands, you can swim in the shallow, relatively calm water that surrounds the archipelago. A few islands have been developed as private beach clubs or hotel properties — Heart of Europe, the development at the central Europe cluster, operates floating villas accessible from the water. Photography of the world map formation from deck level is extraordinary on a clear day. The area is also excellent for paddleboarding and kayaking (equipment available from Monaliza Yachts on request).

š¡ Best incorporated into a 6+ hour charter. 25 minutes from Dubai Marina at cruising speed each way.

Palm Jumeirah Outer Crescent

The Palm Jumeirah's outer crescent — the breakwater arc that encloses the entire Palm structure — is one of Dubai's greatest anchorage positions. Accessed from the south through the entrance gap, the outer crescent provides protection from the open Gulf swell while offering extraordinary views of the Palm fronds visible to the interior. Anchoring here, you're within view of five luxury hotel beachfronts: Rixos The Palm, FIVE Palm Jumeirah, Atlantis The Palm (at the crown of the trunk), Waldorf Astoria Palm Jumeirah, and Anantara The Palm.

The water here is generally calm and clear, excellent for swimming during peak season. The Palm Jumeirah sunset from anchor — looking east as the sun descends behind the JBR towers — is one of the most photographed views in Dubai's charter itinerary library. Water sports off the swim platform are popular, and the proximity to the hotel beach clubs (visible from the water, though not directly accessible from anchor) provides an excellent visual backdrop for group photographs. This is our most requested anchorage for birthday and proposal charters.

Musandam Peninsula, Oman

The Musandam Peninsula — an Omani exclave separated from the rest of Oman by UAE territory — is one of the most dramatic coastal landscapes in the entire Arabian Peninsula. Known as "the Norway of Arabia" for its fjord-like khor inlets (khors) carved into mountain limestone over millennia, Musandam is accessible from Dubai Marina in approximately 4–5 hours by fast motor yacht, making it viable as an extended day trip but most rewarding as the centrepiece of a 2-day overnight charter. The extra time allows you to navigate the Khor Sham, Khor Qassad, and Khor Hible inlets at leisure, swim in water that is visibly different in colour (deeper blue-green, colder) from the Arabian Gulf, and watch dolphins — present in enormous numbers year-round — from the bow.

📋 Important: Musandam requires Omani entry permission for all passengers and a maritime crossing clearance. Monaliza Yachts manages all documentation. A 2-day charter is strongly recommended for a meaningful experience.

Abu Dhabi by Yacht — Overnight from Dubai

The UAE's capital lies approximately 130 nautical miles from Dubai Marina — a 3.5 to 4-hour passage at cruising speed across the open Gulf, making it a natural overnight charter itinerary with departure in the late afternoon and arrival off the Abu Dhabi Corniche at dawn. The city seen from the water at first light — the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque visible in the distance, the Corniche towers reflected in still morning water — is genuinely extraordinary, rewarding the passage entirely. Abu Dhabi's Yas Marina provides full overnight berthing facilities, and the Corniche anchorage offers excellent views of the Emirates Palace waterfront. This route is available for multi-day bookings on any live-aboard capable vessel in the Monaliza Yachts fleet.

Fujairah East Coast — the Indian Ocean Side

The Emirate of Fujairah sits on the UAE's Indian Ocean coastline — the country's east coast, facing the Gulf of Oman rather than the Arabian Gulf. Getting there from Dubai Marina requires overland travel (approximately 90 minutes by road) followed by a charter in the very different conditions of the Fujairah waters. The difference is immediately apparent: the water is noticeably cooler (22–26°C in winter vs 25–28°C on the west coast), the visibility is exceptional (often 15–20 metres), the coastline is rocky and dramatic rather than flat and sandy, and the biodiversity is significantly richer — Fujairah's offshore sites are regarded as some of the best dive locations in the UAE.

Monaliza Yachts can arrange Fujairah-based charters with vessels from our partner fleet based at Fujairah Marina. For guests who want a different dimension to their UAE charter experience — particularly divers, snorkellers, and those who find the Gulf's busy shipping lanes and construction scenery less appealing than the Indian Ocean coast — Fujairah is a compelling alternative. JBR Beach and Bluewaters Island — Short Sunset Routes

Not every charter needs to be a voyage. The JBR-to-Bluewaters corridor — immediately offshore from Jumeirah Beach Residence and the Ain Dubai observation wheel on Bluewaters Island — represents Dubai's most concentrated short-route charter experience. Within a 30-minute window from Dubai Marina, you're positioned with the Ain Dubai directly off your beam, the JBR beach visible in its full kilometre sweep, and the Dubai Marina skyline rising behind you. At golden hour, this view — familiar from a thousand Instagram posts — delivers something photographs still cannot quite replicate in person. This is the ideal route for 2-hour sunset charters, anniversary dinners, and guests who want the quintessential Dubai view without committing to a longer voyage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Navigating to The World Islands requires no special permit for private charter vessels. Landing on specific islands or accessing private property requires separate permissions. Our captains manage all necessary maritime clearances on your behalf.
Musandam is technically possible as a long day trip, but is most rewarding as a two-day overnight charter. The 4–5 hour passage each way makes a single-day visit very tight. We recommend an overnight charter to allow 8–10 hours to explore the Musandam fjords properly.
Yes — we offer bespoke overnight and multi-day charters to Abu Dhabi on vessels with full live-aboard facilities. The passage takes approximately 3–4 hours from Dubai Marina. Contact our team for custom itinerary design.
